North America surface trade jumps nearly 16% in May

www.chinatrucks.com: Trade using surface transportation between Canada, the US and Mexico was 15.7% higher in May than in May 2010, totalling $77.3 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the US Department of Transportation.
BTS reported that the value of US surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico in May rose 61.5% in two years from May 2009, but has still only risen 4.3% above the early recession level of May 2008.
The value of US surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico in May increased by 17.2% when compared to May 2006, and increased by 55.9% when compared to May 2001. Imports in May were up 46.4% since May 2001, while exports were up 68.5%.
The value of US surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico gained 4.8% in May from April.
US-Canada surface transportation trade increased 15.1% to $46.3 billion compared to May 2010.
In May, Michigan led all states in surface trade with Canada at $6.3 billion, a 15.6% increase from May 2010.
