Heavy Truck Sales in September 2024

In September 2024, China’s heavy truck market recorded sales of 43,500 units. While this marks an 8% increase from August, it also represents a significant 26% decline compared to the same month last year, highlighting ongoing challenges in the sector.

Sales Rankings

No manufacturer surpassed 10,000 units sold in September. Dongfeng led the market with 9,419 units, closely followed by FAW Jiefang, which sold just 30 units fewer. China National Heavy Duty Truck secured third place with 7,078 units sold. Foton and Shaanxi Automobile also performed well, with sales of 4,787 and 4,298 units, respectively.

SANY, XCMG, and JAC ranked sixth to eighth, with sales of 1,956, 1,292, and 1,013 units. Yuncheng Commercial Vehicles and Beijing Automotive rounded out the top ten with 998 and 671 units sold.

Market Share Analysis

The top ten manufacturers together accounted for 94.1% of the market share in September. Dongfeng and Jiefang each held over 20% of the market, with shares of 21.67% and 21.60%. China National Heavy Duty Truck and Foton followed with shares of 16.28% and 11.01%, while Shaanxi Automobile held 9.89%.

Performance in the First Three Quarters

From January to September 2024, total heavy truck sales reached 431,200 units, a 9% decrease year-on-year. No company has yet crossed the 100,000-unit threshold for total sales. FAW Jiefang led with 98,600 units sold, followed by Dongfeng at 90,900 units and China National Heavy Duty Truck with 80,800 units.

Additionally, SANY exceeded 10,000 units in sales for the first three quarters, reaching 13,500 units. XCMG, JAC, Hongyan, and Dayun followed in seventh to tenth place with sales of 9,187, 8,820, 6,884, and 6,157 units, respectively.

Overall Market Share Summary

In the first three quarters of 2024, the top ten manufacturers controlled 93.72% of the market share. FAW Jiefang and Dongfeng both exceeded 20%, with shares of 22.87% and 21.09%, respectively. China National Heavy Duty Truck trailed with an 18.75% share, while Shaanxi and Foton had shares of 10.53% and 10.15%.
