Dongfeng to begin exports to South Korea

November 06,2009

(chinatrucks.com, Nov. 6,2009)Chinese OEM Dongfeng Motor plans to begin exporting models to South Korea next year, reports JoongAng Daily. This will mark the first importation of Chinese models to South Korea, according to the report. Four Dongfeng models will be offered initially.

Dongfeng Motor Korea will handle the imports, which will include a one-ton truck, a commercial minivan, and six- and nine-passenger vans. Sales of the vehicles are expected to begin in South Korea in April 2010.

Dongfeng claims the vehicles will cost 30% less than comparable other Korean vehicles. The first models are all commercial vehicles, as Dongfeng has concerns about the quality (interior and engine) of its passenger cars. The OEMs aims to sell about 1,000 trucks a month, rising to 1,500 units/month in 2011.
