(chinatrucks.com, September 25, 2009)HINO MOTORS LTD. (TSE:7205) said Monday that it has started making heavy-duty trucks in China at a joint venture plant built in cooperation with GUANGZHOU AUTOMOBILE GROUP CO. The 50-50 joint venture, GAC HINO MOTORS CO., is capitalized at 1.5 billion yuan, or some 20 billion yen (US$219.34 million), and is churning out trucks from the Hino 700 Series.
Although only 600 units are scheduled to roll off the line this fiscal year, Hino hopes to boost the figure to 20,000 a year in the future.
Hino has truck plants in Mexico and elsewhere overseas, but the joint venture facility will be responsible for final assembly only.
