Foton Expands Africa Strategy with New Launch in Tanzania
November 11,2024
Foton views Tanzania as a key market in East Africa, introducing a full range of commercial vehicles, including heavy trucks, light trucks, pickups, and buses, with plans to strengthen its market presence. Working closely with local dealers, Foton aims to provide Tanzanian customers with comprehensive sales and service solutions, targeting annual sales of 2,000 units by 2026 to become Tanzania's leading Chinese commercial vehicle brand.
At the event, Foton launched its new AUMAN AMT heavy-duty truck, featuring an advanced vehicle connectivity system. Equipped with a high-powered Foton Cummins engine and Foton ZF AMT transmission, this truck is built for efficiency, economy, and reliability. The truck’s full air-suspension system enhances comfort, while its cabin meets European crash standards and is equipped with multiple electronic safety features for added safety and efficiency. The connectivity system allows for real-time vehicle monitoring, fault detection, and driver behavior analysis, helping fleet managers reduce costs, improve safety, and streamline operations, offering long-haul fleets a low-cost solution.Tanzania's Deputy Minister of Transport
The AUMARK S light truck, powered by Foton's SuperPowerTrain, meets the high standards of logistics demands, while the compact TRUCK MATE micro-truck is designed for efficient “last-mile” delivery. Additionally, Foton introduced the TUNLAND G7 pickup, a versatile vehicle for work and lifestyle needs, powered by the quiet, powerful AUCAN engine. This pickup, already popular in Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and South Africa, offers an exceptional driving experience.
During the event, Foton delivered 20 units of its 430-horsepower AUMAN AMT trucks to ASAS Group, Tanzania’s largest commercial enterprise. These vehicles were specifically designed for Tanzania’s challenging road conditions, ensuring durability and high performance even on tough terrain. This delivery not only reinforces Foton’s long-standing relationship with ASAS Group but also underscores Foton’s commitment to growing its presence in Africa. Moving forward, Foton and ASAS will deepen their collaboration in product innovation, market development, and after-sales services.
Foton’s Africa strategy has already shown remarkable growth, with exports up by 311% this October year-on-year. Looking ahead, Foton will intensify its focus on local market needs and push forward in the fourth quarter to achieve its 2024 goals.
Starting in Q4, Foton will offer African customers added benefits, including free vehicle connectivity services, a 3-year or 450,000 km warranty, and complimentary spare parts. These benefits will deliver a full value chain solution for commercial vehicle customers.
Amid the global shift toward new energy, China has taken the lead with high-quality products and a strong supply chain. As a leading brand in China’s new energy commercial vehicle sector, Foton is expanding its mature electric solutions worldwide. In the African market, Foton plans to introduce electric vehicles soon, offering efficient, zero-emission options for customers in Tanzania and across Africa. Foton will continue to collaborate with African partners to provide top-quality commercial vehicles, supporting local economic growth, social progress, and enhanced customer value.
