Jiangling Motors 1H Sales Up To 53,327 Units

Ford Motor Co. (F) said Monday its sales in China in the January-June period rose 14% from a year earlier to 197,212 units, driven by the popularity of its Fiesta subcompact sedan.

Jiangling Motors Corp. (000550.SZ), Ford's commercial vehicle joint venture in China sold 53,327 units in the first half, including 14,210 Ford Transit light commercial vans, the U.S. auto maker said in a statement. It didn't give year-earlier figures.

Sales by Ford's passenger-vehicle joint venture, Changhan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., rose 20.0% in the January-June period to 140,438 units from 117,063 units a year earlier, Ford's partner in the venture, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. (000625.SZ), said earlier.

Ford sold 18,224 Fiestas in China since the car was launched in the country in March, ahead of forecasts, Ford said without elaborating.
